Half the Sky city, Urumqi, is famous for being the most inland city in the world (it is located 1,400 miles (2,500 km) from the nearest ocean) and for being the last stop on the northern route of the Silk Road. Thanks to the Silk Road, Urumqi has always boasted a diverse population, which includes many ethnic groups, including Uygur, Han, Hui, Mongol, and Kazakhs.

THE SOMEBODY LOVES ME DOLLS

16” Xiao Lian (Little Lotus) and her tiny 6” brother, Lin Hao (named after the little boy who rescued so many friends in Sichuan). Xiao Lian holds her little brother Lin Hao close; Lin Hao has a rainbow on his chest – and both of them have wings!

Half the Sky’s Somebody Loves Me Dolls were designed by Hong Kong and Canadian artist Wing, Hu Yong Yi (www.huyongyi.com), who has also designed many of our holiday cards and our Give Me Wings website.
