Summer News
2005年 07 月 26 日I’m most happy to tell you that MEI MEI has arrived at our Half the Sky office. We’re busily packing and sending out orders as fast as we can, so if you pre-ordered, you should be receiving yours in the next few days. Of course, if you haven’t yet ordered MEI MEI, we’ll be happy to hear from you. Please do remember, that although MEI MEI is now available in bookstores and on the web, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this book will go to support Half the Sky’s programs in China’s welfare institutions ONLY IF YOU PURCHASE DIRECTLY FROM HALF THE SKY. And every copy of MEI MEI that you purchase from Half the Sky will be signed by the photographer. Signed copies are not available elsewhere.
We’re so honored and grateful to share the good news that Clothes Off Our Back, a wonderful organization founded by Hollywood stars that auctions celebrity attire to benefit charity, has selected Half the Sky as one of its three recipients for 2005-2006. What does this mean to you? It means that you can bid on your favorite actor’s Emmy gown or tux and help HTS at the same time! First event will be the fourth annual Emmy auction immediately following the 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on September 18, 2005. There’s a wonderful and very accurate article about Half the Sky and our new Jiangsu Province foster village in Gaoyou in the Beijing Review. And Half the Sky is also nicely saluted in a Newsweek/MSNBC article about domestic adoption in China.
Our volunteer coordinators have put out a special call to HTS friends in the LA area. Chinese Food Festival, Los Angeles has invited us to host an information table at its popular celebration of Chinese food and culture. If you’d like to help us spread the word about HTS (and taste some great food in the bargain!) please contact us at volunteer@halfthesky.org.
And one more request from our awesome volunteers: The second annual HTS auction is coming on October 15-22. Do you have an item or items you’d like to contribute? Last year we earned enough to buy enough toys to equip an entire HTS center. Let’s do it again this year! Contact HTS national volunteer coordinator, Carla Seidel, volunteer@halfthesky.org with your questions and contributions. Thanks in advance!
Finally…As you know, we had a spectacular first half of 2005. We were able to open HTS centers at six new institutions! This November we’ll open a seventh, in Guangzhou and more than 3100 children will be participating in HTS programs. All good news. However, I’ve just been informed by our sponsorship coordinator that right now more than 400 children do not have sponsors. If you haven’t yet made a commitment to an individual child in China, I hope you’ll consider sponsoring a little one at Half the Sky. It costs less than $1 a day—and what a difference you can make in a child’s life! We thank you all for all the difference you are making already.
