Our Work

A New Home for Medically Fragile Babies

Part One - Training and Planning

Part Two - Getting Ready

Part Three - The Babies Arrive!

Part Four - Settling In

Once the training was completed and furniture and supplies began arriving, everyone pitched in. Our babies were due to arrive on May 7 but goods didn't begin to arrive until the last week in April. Nobody at Half the Sky had a May Day holiday this year!

By May 7, when the babies were due, things were looking pretty good. Still no curtains and nothing on the walls, but the Special Care Nurseries and Family Care Unit were beginning to look like home. Each bed was tagged with the name of its soon-to-be resident.

The medical and care staff had one final meeting in preparation. Lily Lu, who's joined Half the Sky from China Care briefed everyone on each of the babies who would soon arrive.

Everything and everybody seemed ready....
