XiXi Learns that Someone Cares

From XiXi's teacher:

Because of the changes that have happened to XiXi, I have learned the importance of my work and the true worth of a teacher.

When she entered our Little Sisters Preschool, XiXi seldom spoke.

Every time she saw me, she would draw back and hide at the back with fear in her eyes. When entering the classroom, she always walked sideways and moved slowly. She liked to play with the toys alone and when I called her name, she didn't respond to me.

I was very fond of XiXi and I realized that she did not have anything like a parental relationship with me or any other adult.  She was certainly not bonded to me. So I often accompanied her, gently talking to her and playing with her.

Every time I met her, I would call her name, embracing her, kissing her and touching her hands and back. When taking part in the community activities, I would always hold her hands, singing children's songs to her. Gradually, when I would call her name, she would respond to me and her voice became more and more clear.

Now every time she sees me, she will run over to me, flinging herself into my arms, leaning on me with a happy smile appearing on her face.

When doing creative work, XiXi will show her work to me and say, "Teacher, have a look!"

During this period, Xixi has begun to show an interest in music. She often claps and dances to the music. However, she is still uncomfortable in a places that are not familiar to her.  Now that she knows I care about her, I think I can help!

In the next three months, taking into account her interest in music, I plan to motivate her to communicate more with others. When taking part in community activities, I will encourage her to sing and talk with new friends and try to help weaken the fear that comes when she is in a new situation.
